This is another one of the core practices that I do with each of my 1:1 clients. This exercise is from The Compassion Method, a inner healing modality created by one of my incredible mentors and teachers, Laura Duncan. The modality was birthed out of her grief journey after her husband passed away and it is deeply rich and beautiful, covering 6 different modules: triggers, true self, child self, compassion, shame and blame, and the ten gifts. This practice is for you to take inventory of the gifts that you did or didn’t receive during your younger childhood, usually ranging from ages 0 -12. This age range is important because during this time, we undergo most of our core development. If our adult self is the website, our younger self is the coding. What we experience now is directly impacted by our experiences when we were little, but the amazing news is that we can always update that coding to allow for a new expression of ourselves in adulthood.
